The position:
Here’s your opportunity to develop your geology career working with scientists from other disciplines in the rapidly growing area of coal seam gas (CSG) research and petroleum source rock evaluation. Specifically you’ll be responsible for:
* promoting and developing new projects including new R&D areas/technologies in collaboration with others;
* reporting your results in reports, presentations and publications.
* providing geological/petrological input to projects and integrating the results with other analyses;
* contributing to the R&D program of the Organic Petrology Team;
To be successful in this role you’ll need:
* proficiency in using microscopes for petrological analyses;
* capability in planning and conducting R&D;
* familiarity with geology applied to oil and gas exploration;
* excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
* Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
* a degree in geology, at Honours level or greater (preferably including some coal geology/petrology);
Ideally you’ll also have:
* Scientific publication record
* Post-graduate experience/qualifications in geology preferably involving coal geology/petrology

The Petroleum Resources Division provides world-class R&D solutions for the petroleum industry worldwide. The division has strong research groups covering numerous aspects of geoscience and geo-engineering, including organic geochemistry and petrology, fluid history analysis, inorganic geochemistry, clastic and carbonate sedimentology and stratigraphy, structural geology, rock physics, petrophysics, geomechanics, hydrogeology, petroleum engineering and drilling mechanics. Much of the research in the division involves integration across disciplines and is commonly done in collaboration with industry, universities or other government agencies.
