Technical Officer (Two positions)

The Energy Institute (EI) is the largest worldwide professional body and learned society concerned with energy issues. Incorporated by Royal Charter, the EI is a registered charity which exists to promote the science of fuel and energy in all forms, through a diverse range of activities including individual membership, technical research, events, training, education and publications.
The EI maintains a small but active Technical Team that produces a large number of codes of practice, technical standards and test methods for the energy industry. Key areas of work are within the fields of health, safety, environment and petroleum analysis and measurement.
Due to an internal promotion, the EI is looking to recruit two graduates to work within the Technical Team.
One position is to assist in the co-ordination of the EI’s work on the development of Standard Test Methods for the measurement and analysis of petroleum products, and to provide administrative support for EI correlation schemes. A key requirement is to have a good understanding of chemistry.
The second position is to assist in the co-ordination of the EI’s work on hydrocarbon management and human factors topics, including the development of codes of practice, guidelines, standards and other materials.
The ideal candidates for both positions will have strong organisational, interpersonal and communication skills, and each will have a science-based first degree. Reporting to the Technical Team Manager - Fuels and Fuel Handling, the candidates will be motivated self-starters capable of working without direct supervision. Some knowledge of the energy industry is desirable, but not essential.
